This is a 'Beginner's Weekend' - August 08. Caroline's teaching enabled the students to create these amazing paintings!
'Caroline really is different. I've been on many courses and they 'part teach you' almost as if they want your money to learn more.
Caroline is different, she teaches you everything you REALLY need to know, so you go away confident and pretty excited. Becuase it is so good, you want to come back anyway. This really is pretty exciting and different teaching - you get your money's worth and 100% more. and I never write thank yous! Brenda March 2008
23/24th AUGUST- BEGINNERS STARTER
More sensational choice of tonal background colour and great brushwork. Nowhere near finished.
This was going to be a 'background' but got so exciting that the student did not want to put anything over it! Admittedly it is 'wall candy' and not 'fine art' - Fine Art is composed paintings - but great tonal values and brush work!
Great colour, exciting composition.
16/17TH AUGUST - DEVELOP YOUR STYLE
This lady is an art student and wanted to 'develop her style' Sensational isn't it?
This lady is a returner and just look at this fantastic painting. We talked about concepts, composition, colour and texture, this weekend.
Lovely strong form and I wish you could see the excellent paint work!
PAINTING WEEK - AUGUST 11-15TH
One of the great paintings by this lady on the painting week.
Two paintings from the Painting week.
9/10th AUGUST - ACRYLIC AND OIL
The group minus one student
This is from the first session
A very very wonderful painting from a photographic inspiration
Caroline teaches you how to paint, talks you through brush marks, colour, composition etc and then YOU can create something TOTALLY stunning like this!
Caroline tells you about everything from colour to light and shade.
This man is with us for 10 days - just watch his progress - click
DEVELOP YOUR STYLE - 26/27TH JULY
The exciting group! This weeked was all about 'concepts' as well as great paint work. All the students had hand made canvases for this weekend.
It's difficult to appreciate from a photograph the amount of work, dedication, excellent painting skills and composition that
has gone into this fantastic painting. This lady came from Switzerland just for the course.
Ed is a returner and has exciting ideas and great painting skills.
Exceptional paint work and composition from this lady who came all the way from South Africa!
GET CREATIVE WEEKEND - July 19/20th
Every single member of this group had outstanding talent! So it was a complete joy to teach them!
Sensational Portrait
Wonderful, colour, great painting!
Very delicate and great brush strokes
BEGINNERS WEEKEND - 5-6th July
Great expressionism
Luckily this doctor was on hand in the studio when
Caroline slashed her leg with a Stanley knife! She was grateful
he took time out from his fantastic painting - to tell her it didn't need stitches!!
PAINTING DAY - JULY 2ND - All complete beginners
JUNE 14/15TH 'GET CREATIVE WEEKEND
Isn't this just TOTALLY sensation?
Look at the depth, choice of colour and wonderful form.
The first day's Landscape Painting
- this is a 'Technique' session.
On the Second day, the students having learnt technique, composition, focal points, tonal values etc, then chose what they want to paint.
2nd Day Painting - Interpretation of a Still Life. This lady
is excellent at drawing but finds colour and paint difficult.
She really worked at it and created a very powerful painting.
After our first 'Technique' session, Caroline gives the students a piece of watercolour paper and encourages
them to do an 'interpretive and spontaneous' ten minute
painting. This is so good - some professional artists would be envious of the colour balance and form!!
This is simply sensational! All completely from imagination
- a great story telling painting, very well composed.
After the morning's 'technique' session, we go on location
to make a 'working drawing' in charcoal. To learn 'tonal values' This is a very demanding task - but essential!!
This is the student's painting from her drawing. Fantastic!
Exciting Interpretation of the still life
The first painting of the weekend - which is all about 'technique'
Learning to control your brushes, the marks you make and different techniques needed for different effects.
On the 2nd day of the 'Beginners Starter Weekend' we usually paint a still life - but you have the choice to paint anything.
This was the Still Life from the May 17/18th weekend.
This is how sensationally the students interpreted the still life.
Each student picking elements to create their own painting.
Stunning interpretation, very brave brush marks and
wonderful tonal balance.
. Another really well planned painting. The student changed the shape of the vase to suit the composition. (This was from a different still life). You have choices!
How clever is this? Wonderful composition, stylised and what genius balance of colour
I expect this illustrates how everyone is encouraged to
develop their own style, composition
and interpretation.
After solid, exceptional teaching on the first day of the weekend.
A return for this lovely man - who has fantastic compositional skills.
Another talented student on the May 10/11th weekend
'GET CREATIVE' TWO DAYS IN THE WEEK
Lots of well blended paint
WATERCOLOUR WEEKEND - MAY 3/4TH
This lady did not enjoy watercolour - so Caroline taught her
some acrylic painting - which goes to prove Caroline REALLY DOES work to your requirements!
This is the acrylic painting from the weekend - all the students felt they could be much expressive with acrylics and this lady
had a very very good painterly style. A natural instinct with a paintbrush!
Lovely Val is an invaluable asset to the Studio - and a constant 'returner'. Apart from knowing all about products - she has a fantastic 'eye' and is always experimenting. This painting has tissue paper texture and is actually totally stunning & very complicated. The photograph does it no justice whatsoever. It really is a stunner!
Watercolour is probably the most difficult medium 'to express yourself' but this man did brilliantly
This lady painted two pictures - on the Sunday - one in very
thin layers of watercolour - the other was very bold and
used different techniques
PAINTING DAYS April 10th
Isn't this sensational? 'Pop art' created fantastically by this really charming 11 year old. A lot of talent.
OIL PAINTING - 29/30TH MARCH
Isn't this totally stunning?
We did a lot of 'tonking' and careful control of brush marks. This painting is telling a real story.
Professional JoeDaisy Weekend
An already successful artist trying to make her style more free
'GET CREATIVE' March 8/9th
This is most sensationally painted. The delicacy of the sea
and waves with the wonderful tone on the rocks - not finished but it will be such a stunner!
Excitingly good - this lady went on a very brave journey - as they say 'Talent is the ability to take risks' and this artist created many layers of paint and explored technique with outstanding confidence.
She wote in an email after the course;
Just a few lines to say how much I enjoyed the course. It definately gave me the confidence to continue my journey of discovery
with my painting, I'm still buzzing with enthusiasm and ideas. Thank you so very much.
This may help you realise the work and the process the artists go through to achieve their paintings. Every stage is carefully composed, painted and built up. Even the bits that are painted over are 'perfect' underneath.
BEGINNERS WEEKEND - March 1st
Very exciting students on this weekend, who had great imagination, original ideas and much determination.
Another exciting composition and I wish you could see that jug
- it's so beautifully painted. Very smooth and shiny - great technique!
OIL PAINTING WEEKEND - Feb 2008
Our first practice session - oil painting created by a student with brushes and painting knives
This is a very excellent painting - wet on wet with oils
A very adventurous painting with some very clever techniques
This student created a sensational very small painting with immaculate detail
BEGINNERS WEEKEND - 5/6TH JANUARY 2008
Caroline said the work on this course was exceptional and asked
the students why it was SO GOOD!! They said because they hadn't come
with any previous knowledge or 'baggage' but because they had the advantage of starting from a completely Professional approach, learning proper preparation, professional techniques, focal points, composition & tonal values that it was bound to be good!
So we think, although Caroline wouldn't say so - because she is
modest!
That she must be giving fantastic teaching to complete beginners
to achieve such great results - IN JUST TWO DAYS!!
A Total Beginner, with exceptional talent. Wonderful colour combinations, wonderful movement
and just look at that really clever tonal brush work.
We created this painting
with glazing
(Stage Painting)
and wet on wet acrylic methods.
Sensational Painting. The Student said:
I would like to thank you very much for a
most fantastic week end. I really enjoyed the wk end
& learnt so much ! Your approach is so good .
The time passed so quickly & although we were all
working so intensively for the two days,
I felt exhilarated , very uplifted & invigorated!.
This has been 'drawn out' with red paint and will be created with
Stage Painting and Wet on Wet techniques. The intention is to leave some of the red outline visible in the finished colours. The student
has only been able to achieve this on the course because of the
lessons on composition, drawing, perspective, tonal values,
proportion, inspirations, examples, learning paint technique etc
STAGE 3 WEEKEND - FEB 1/2ND
The students on Stage 3 weekends are
students who have attended other courses at JoeDaisy or artists with some knowledge. These weekends are fantastic. Everyone really explores paint and mixed media and creates really professional art works.
Very clever techniques
and wonderful brush control. There are many layers of under painting here - finished off with clever tone and strong brush work.
WOW! This artist is SO FANTASTIC with paint, tone and composition that she feels this is nowhere near finished yet! But this is sensationally painted!
This student
went to the same art school as Caroline - so
great training which is very evident in this painting. Not finished
but pretty sensational paint work and composition.
STARTERS WEEKEND - FEB 9/10TH
The first day of the weekend is spent learning composition,
tonal values, focal points, painting techniques, preparation of canvas, proportion, edges, colour balance etc
These are paintings created on the second day after assimilating all their knowledge! In two days it's pretty sensational going!
Isn't this sensational? Good enough to hang in any gallery and
a first painting by a student since she said 'traumatic' art lessons at school!
This was created from a still life in the Studio. The paint quality is excellent and a very unusual composition!
This lady came on a 'magical mystery tour' - expecting to arrive at a health farm, she was delighted it was a painting weekend and although not prepared for a 'creative challenge' she quickly learnt techniques and created this 'moody' seascape.
BRING OUT THE ARTIST IN YOU!!
EVERYONE IS VERY DIFFERENT AND WE ENCOURAGE AND DEVELOP THE REAL ARTIST IN YOU.
A 'Starter' from the August 2nd weekend
- AMAZING!
A SPECIAL NOTE - ALL THESE ARTISTS ARE BEGINNERS - EXCEPT THE PROFESSIONAL WEEKENDS - THESE ARE INDICATED. SO IF YOU THINK - CRIKEY - I COULD NEVER DO THAT - WITH OUR EXCEPTIONAL AND UNIQUE COURSES AND UNDER CAROLINE'S PERSONAL GUIDANCE - YOU WILL!!

23/24th AUGUST- BEGINNERS STARTER
The first time this lady had ever used a paintbrush and just look at the great talent!
This student really thought about her composition. She created a sensationally painted background - then with great care painted on the flowers and vase. Nowhere near finished of course!
16/17TH AUGUST - DEVELOP YOUR STYLE
Wonderful tonal values and colour
This lady is a watercolorist and the first time she has used acrylics - so quite sensational!
Geraldine is a returner and creating sensational paintings.
This is one of Geraldine's first paintings
PAINTING WEEK - AUGUST 11-15TH
Isn't this just the most sensational contemporary painting?
2nd Day painting. Wonderful choice of complimentary colours and a great mixture of paint techniques.
The ten minute 'abstract expressionism' painting
we do
after the first 'landscape' session.
It's amazing how everyone does something completely
different and look at this fantastic blend of colour and tone. Exceptional!
A very exciting interpretation of a flower
Look at the great 'balance' of this 'ten minute' painting. The great excitement of the undercolour, balanced with the form and dark colour on top. Very exciting!
Another exciting 'ten minute' interpretive painting. Isn't it totally stunning?
This lovely lady was from Ireland - she came on a three day course. She was SO excellent at learning that she managed to create this totally stunning painting - that is excellent in brush strokes, has fantastic aura and a wonderful colour balance. How many beginners do you know that can create something so sensational in THREE Days!
A really, really sweet lady who planned her painting very accurately - below is the detail of her exceptional painting.
Detail of the painting above
Another approach to the still life, careful, studied and
beautifully painted.
This lady kept us all laughing - she said her hair 'was a mistake'!
Another stunning painting - May 10-11th weekend
'GET CREATIVE' TWO DAYS IN THE WEEK
Very clever composition and painting
Inspired by a Lotus
WATERCOLOUR WEEKEND - MAY 3/4TH
GCSE STUDENT - who joined us for the Sunday
Isn't this more sensational than sensational!! A GCSE student
who has so much talent and fantastic ideas. This is an oil painting,
very very beautifully painted. One of our 'stars' of the future?
This man had never picked up a paintbrush until the weekend
but he had natural ability and was incredibly quick to learn.
This weekend is spent painting in acrylics on Saturday and oils on Sunday. This is the oil painting from this very talented lady.
Sensational!
No matter what day, weekend or week you book onto, Caroline will always develop 'the Artist in You' and let you 'vary from the programme' - if you want to. She gives everyone individual
attention and doesn't just take you 'through the motions. She recognises and develops your own individual talent.
Students are asked to write down - before they start painting - some words to describe how they expect their painting to look. This lady fulfilled her 'concept' to perfection. She wanted to attain that wonderful 'translucency' of watercolour.
PAINTING DAYS April 10th
It's quite something to create on one day but this VERY talented lady had great brush control, great vision and a huge ability to learn. Thanks Pam for being a great student. Keep painting!
OIL PAINTING - 29/30TH MARCH
You need to see this to appreciate the beautiful painting - so carefully controlled that only the people and the sky have been started.
Oil painting, wet on wet in one day is very difficult but this lovely lady has the delicatest of touches and very wonderful brush control.
Professional JoeDaisy Weekend
Another accomplished artist who came to learn new techniques
GET CREATIVE' March 8/9th
This lady has exceptional brush control - just look at that sky - fantastic mood and her fine detail brush control is perfect
This was a very detailed and complicated composition - as the artist said 'a lifetime's work'!' - Great vision, great dedication.
She wote in an email after the course;
Just wanted to thank you both for a fabulous weekend. I am feeling very
depressed this morning as the reality of work has hit and all I want to do
is paint. You are very clever Caroline, and your teaching is brilliant! The
whole atmosphere of the studio was lovely and Alex's hospitality was
appreciated. The paintings from Saturday have already been put up in my two
daughters' bedrooms, but I think 'Whitby' will be a 'work in progress' for a
long time.
Hope to get back as soon as possible probably on the abstract weekend.
The same painting on the left but with another layer of 'foliage'
- not finished of course but outstanding what the artists
achieve on their second day - under Caroline's guidance.
BEGINNERS WEEKEND MARCH 1ST
Well now! This is exceptional for a starter. The background is well balanced in colour and great brush strokes.
A great exercise in colour and tonal values and an original composition

The student worked on the painting to the left to now achieve
this fantastic work of art!
STARTERS WEEKEND - FEB 9/10TH
This is based on a still life by Cezanne and a very brave, passionate painting by a complete beginner
This is very beautifully painted. Lots of layers of paint and texture.
The atmosphere is real Tuscany!
This student gave himself a huge challenge in his first choice of subject from a photograph - and realising it was too ambitious - he gave up but created this in a couple of hours!
