COURSE PROGRAMME - GET CREATIVE WEEKEND
SATURDAY
Arrive 10.0am Refreshments in the upstairs gallery. Meet your fellow artists.
Introduction to JoeDaisy Studio and your Professional Artist.
10.30am Paints, brushes and equipment. KNOW YOUR EQUIPMENT. A complete
overview, explanation and
comparison of products. Every artist has their own space with professional easel, painting table and hi stool. Some special tips on how to prepare your canvas for painting. Use of pigments & mediums. Which sort of brush for each medium etc. There is a complete selection of brushes, palette knives, paints, pastels, canvases, pigments, mediums, etc in the studio.
11.0am Painting with passion and the power of one brush and a limited palette. We paint in acrylics. An
essential warming up and ‘exploring’ exercise where you discover your own abilities/
instincts/leanings. You are taught how to create a focal point and how to balance your colour (with reference to the Colour Wheel) in this initial exercise. You also learn how nature can teach you composition and how 'nature' can be your starting point to create 'simplified' or 'abstract' paintings.
We explore brushes and Cat shows you how to handle and work your brush. Everyone has
the same colour palette and it is very interesting to see how each student creates a completely different painting. We use the wet on wet method and paint with passion,
spontaneously, quickly and with confidence of colour. This is an initial exercise to explore your instinctive creative abilities.
12.45 Critique of your paintings.
It’s good to look back on this first painting at the end of the
weekend - to see how you’ve progressed.
1.00am Buffet Lunch in the Upstairs Gallery (Sometimes a barbecue in the summer) We cater for vegetarians and any special dietary requirements. During the day, there is a coffee machine, tea, herbal drinks, soft drinks, bottled water and wine available - along with nibbles and you are encouraged to make the Studio 'your home' for the weekend i.e take rests whenever you want to, walk around, look at the art books, look at the paintings and prints in the Gallery, sit and chat etc. We want you to feel as if you are at home but with the added bonus of every top quality Professional art material and facility you could desire!
2.00pm We instruct you on composition, tonal values and focal points. With examples from famous artists.
2.30pm. On Location. We take you on location to create a working drawing on paper. Instruction is given on how you can make an abstract/contemporary drawing from a landscape.
3.30pm Discussion about your desired subjects for painting the next day. Because we want to encourage the artist in you and not just 'take you through the motions' we want you to chose the subjects you want to paint. Painting is all about passion, what you want to say and how you want to say it.
So now you decide what you want to paint. You may even have a painter whose style you want to emulate. There is nothing wrong with that because you will eventually discover your own style. Bring a photograph with you of the scene/image you want to paint. If you don't have any idea of what you want to paint, we can set up a still life in the Studio for you.
More advanced students will create their own composition with the skills learnt.
4.00pm Day ends.
